2021 Werner Allen Blvd and Shawano Street Improvements

5-24-2021:  Staff recently held a preconstruction meeting for the Werner Allen/Shawano Street Reconstruction project.  The Contractor informed the city that they intend on starting construction the week of June 7th.  During that time much of the initial project will include spot repairs in the city's storm and sanitary sewer system.  Overall the project is slated to end in Mid-August (weather permitting).   Regular traffic will be detoured during construction, local traffic will be permitted to their residences.  Access to Hatten Park via Washington Street will normally be permitted, however their will be times where access to the park via the Jennings Street driveway will be the only entrance available.

4-16-2021:  On Tuesday, April 13th, the New London Common Council awarded the contract for the Werner Allen Blvd and Shawano Street improvement project.   General information for each street is as follows:

  • Werner Allen Blvd:  This project includes improvements from Wolf River Ave to Jennings Street, spot repair of curb and gutter, spot repair of existing sidewalks, spot repairs to the sanitary sewer main and sport repairs to the storm sewer system.  Sanitary sewer laterals will be replaced to all buildings which have laterals that are non compliant to current building code or per municipal code.   The entire road surface for this project will be replaced.  An exact timeline has not been established at this time, however the project will be slated during the summer when school is not in session.  Property owners will be assessed for the cost of lateral replacements.  Click here for a copy of the final resolution authorizing the city to assess properties for lateral improvements.
